Job SHadow

Job Shadowing is an academically motivating and educational activity dedicated to giving kids and up-close look at the world of work. Kicking off each February, and continuing throughout the school year, Job Shadowing gives students the opportunity to "shadow" a workplace mentor as he or she goes through a normal day on the job. This gives young people a chance to see how the skills learned in school relate to the workplace. Everyone benefits!

For Students/Educators... job shadowing:

• Provides an answer to the question, “Why do I have to learn this?”

• Demonstrates the importance of academics in reaching college and career goals

• Motivates students to learn by demonstrating the tangible applications of classroom lessons

For employers ... job shadowing:

• Helps prepare the future workforce

• Shows students career possibilities in different industries

• Demonstrates a tangible commitment to supporting and improving the community

For employee mentors ... job shadowing:

• Creates a feeling of personal satisfaction that comes from mentoring a young person

• Offers a chance to share knowledge and skills

• Provides the opportunity to help a child become a successful adult

• Could lead to a long-term mentoring relationship
