A Fast-paced, High-tech Challenge of Student Business Skills
Do your future employees have what it takes? Junior Achievement of Western Massachusetts, Inc. (JA) engages high school and college students by putting their knowledge to the test in the largest Student Stock Market Challenge in North America.
JA is turning Western New England College into the New York Stock Exchange for the day. Be a part of it by becoming a Sponsor!
Teams from throughout the region will compete in this high-tech stock market simulation event. The Challenge: see who can amass the highest net-worth by the end of the investing period. In this fast-paced, high stakes event, teams compete through 60 trading days in one hour—a new trading day every minute!
Each four-person team is given a fictional $500,000 bankroll and list of 26 made-up companies with stock ticker symbols. Just like in a real trading day, brokers receive tips and news that impact the market and influence whether teams should buy or sell.
The Stock Market Challenge offers an opportunity for students to test-drive what they are learning in classrooms and compete with students from other business programs. In the evening, sponsoring companies are given the opportunity to compete themselves to learn the educational values they helped to provide the participating students.
Premise of the Stock Market Challenge
- Teams begin the game with $500,000 trading dollars which the can invest in fictitious stock.
- Once the bell is rung, every 60 seconds is a new trading day, in this volatile market! Teams can track their stocks performance and their overall team standing by the information projected onto three massive screens at the front of the room.
- Teams can buy or sell stock by attracting the attention of a floor trader, just as they do on the stock trading floor. Every floor trader is equipped with a hand held computer which sends orders instantly into the system, via wireless transmission.
- The team with the largest portfolio after 60 days of trading WINS!
Who can participate?
- Each Team consists of 4 players
- There will be a student event in the morning open to local Middle & High Schools where funding is available
- There will be a college event in the afternoon

College Stock Market Challenge 2:30pm to 5:00pm
Networking- YPS, Corporate Sponsor and College Teams 5:00pm to 6:30pm
Corporate Stock Market Challenge 7:00pm to 8:30pm
