Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company

The Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company (MMWEC) is the joint
action agency for the consumer-owned, municipal utilities of Massachusetts,
providing a wide range of power supply, financial and other services to meet
the common needs of its Member and Project Participant municipal utilities.
Working together through the MMWEC organization, municipal utilities are
able to achieve economies of scale and other benefits in meeting the power
supply and other needs of their customers at the lowest possible cost. Of
the 40 municipal utilities in Massachusetts, 25 are Members of the MMWEC
organization and 28 are Participants in MMWEC Power Supply Projects.

MMWEC is a non-profit, public corporation, and political subdivision of the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts created in 1976 through an Act of the state
Legislature, Chapter 775 of the Acts of 1975. MMWEC's corporate offices, as
well as the organization's Stony Brook power plant, are located at the Stony
Brook Energy Center in Ludlow, Mass. MMWEC is the principal owner and
operator of the Stony Brook plant.
